Reggae Legend Passes Away at 65
Reggae music has lost one of its finest voices, as veteran singer Cocoa Tea has passed away at age 65.
His wife, Malvia Scott, confirmed that he died early this morning in a hospital in Broward, Florida.

He is known for classics like Sweet Sweet Cocoa Tea and I Lost My Sonia. He was initially diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019 and had been battling pneumonia in recent months. Despite his health struggles, he remained positive, reassuring his family that “everything was going to be all right.”
Jamaica’s Minister of Culture, Olivia Grange, paid tribute to the artist, calling him “one of the greatest reggae singers who has ever lived” and acknowledging his enduring legacy.
Born in Rocky Point, Clarendon, on September 3, 1959, the reggae singer rose to fame in the mid-1980s and became a staple in the reggae industry. His last major performance was three years ago on the Welcome to Jamrock Cruise, following a standout appearance at Buju Banton’s Long Walk to Freedom concert in 2019.
His music, characterized by smooth vocals and conscious lyrics, will continue to inspire generations to come. Rest in peace Reggae Icon.
